Adjectives Ending in -o
- Change the -o to -a before adding -mente.
- Example: rápido → rápida → rápidamente
Using Multiple Adverbs
- When using more than one adverb formed with -mente, only the last adverb needs to have the suffix.
- Example: Ella habla clara y rápidamente.
Exceptions
- Some adverbs do not follow this pattern and have a completely different form.
- Example: bien (well), mal (badly), muy (very)
Summary
- Form Spanish adverbs by adding -mente to the feminine singular adjective.
- This corresponds to the English “-ly” suffix.
- Only the last of a series of -mente adverbs takes the suffix.
- Remember common irregular adverbs that do not use -mente.
